Wooden reptile enclosure FAQ

The honest answers keepers ask us most before buying a wooden reptile enclosure: whether it is safe for the animal, how it handles humidity, what ships with it, and how it gets to your door. If your question is not here, email us and we will answer like keepers.

Are wooden reptile enclosures safe for my reptile?

Yes. Our enclosures are built from furniture-grade engineered wood with TFL (thermally fused laminate), the same panel construction used in commercial furniture and cabinetry. The TFL is a sealed laminate surface, not a raw or painted wood, so it wipes clean and stands up to daily husbandry. We build for arid and moderate-humidity species, where wood is an excellent, stable material that holds heat better than a screen or thin plastic box.

They are also CARB Phase 2 and TSCA Title VI compliant, the formaldehyde-emission standards required for composite wood produced in the United States, where our manufacturing partner builds every enclosure.

Can I keep a tropical, high-humidity species in a wood enclosure?

We will be straight with you: our wood line is built for arid and moderate-humidity species (bearded dragons, leopard geckos, uromastyx, many snakes). Sustained tropical humidity is not what a wood enclosure is best at. If your animal needs high humidity, we would rather point you to the right setup than sell you the wrong one. Our 4-foot PVC enclosure for tropical species is currently restocking, so join the waitlist and we will tell you honestly whether to wait for it.

What are the doors made of?

Clear acrylic sliding doors. We use acrylic instead of heavier, breakable materials because it is shatter-proof in shipping, and broken doors are the number one freight complaint in this niche. You get a clear view of your animal and an enclosure that arrives intact. Acrylic can scratch over time, so we recommend wiping it with a soft cloth rather than an abrasive pad.

Does the enclosure come with lights, and does it provide UVB?

A wired light fixture and two heat-lamp sockets come installed, so you just add the bulbs your species needs. The enclosure does not provide UVB on its own; it accommodates the UVB and basking bulbs you choose. The standard fixture is a wired T8 setup, and a T5 HO lighting upgrade is available for species that need stronger output. We sell the enclosure, you choose the bulbs that fit your animal.

What size enclosure does my reptile need?

We size by footprint, not by gallons. For most adult reptiles we treat 4x2x2 as the minimum and recommend 6x2x2 whenever the room allows it, because more floor space means a real warm side and cool side for proper thermoregulation. Tell us your species on a species page or by email and we will recommend the right size before you buy.

How long until my enclosure ships?

Our flagship 6x2x2 ships ready to go: handling is 2 to 3 business days, then freight transit, so most arrive in about 1 to 2 weeks. Other sizes and custom builds are made to order, roughly 2 to 4 weeks of build time before freight. Need it sooner? Rush Production is available at checkout to move a made-to-order build to the front of the queue. See our Shipping page for the full timeline.

How does shipping work, and is liftgate included?

Every enclosure ships free to the continental US with liftgate service included, no surprise freight charges at checkout. Because a wooden enclosure with a stand is too large for parcel carriers, it ships fully assembled on a pallet by freight. The carrier calls to schedule, the liftgate lowers the pallet to the ground, and delivery is curbside. Inspect the pallet and note any damage on the bill of lading before signing. Full details are on our Shipping page.

What does the warranty cover?

Every enclosure carries a 90-day limited warranty against manufacturing defects, and we cover the shipping on a valid claim. That includes panel delamination, joinery and hardware defects, finish defects, and the acrylic doors that many competitors exclude. It is for the original purchaser and runs 90 days from delivery. See our Warranty page for the full terms.

Can I return it if it is not the right fit?

Our ready-to-ship 6x2x2 has a 30-day return window: send it back in original condition and packaging, and we refund the purchase price minus return shipping, with no restocking fee. Made-to-order and custom builds are final sale once production begins, because each one is cut and finished for your order. If anything arrives damaged or we made a mistake, we make it right on us. See our Return Policy.

Is there a matching stand?

Yes. We make a matching two-drawer stand sized to fit the enclosure, with storage for the gear keepers accumulate: bulbs, supplements, feeders, and tools. You can add it as a bundle with the enclosure. It is the piece nobody else in the niche includes.

What colors and finishes do you offer?

Five furniture-grade finishes today: Black, Iconic Maple, Mahogany, California Walnut, and Glacier White, with Slate Gray joining soon. Every finish is the same TFL surface that wipes clean and resists daily wear.

Do you build custom sizes?

At launch our buyable product is the 6x2x2 in five finishes, with a matching stand. For other footprints, you can register interest on the sizes section of our homepage. When enough keepers ask for the same size, we put it into production. We would rather build the sizes there is real demand for than over-promise on day one.

Still have a question?

We would rather help you pick correctly than have you guess. Email us and we will get back to you within one business day.
